As part of Deafblind awareness week 2023 our friends at Deafblind West Australians (DBWA) hosted a celebration at Perth City Farm. In collaboration with Deafblind Information Australia, a reference group of deafblind people across Australia decided on this year’s theme: “In touch with community’”.

DBWA worked for over 8 months in collaboration with MAANZ Mosaic Association of Australia and New Zealand to design, create and install this stunning garden totem artwork at Perth City Farm.

Celebrations on the day included the launch of this unique art installation and presentations from a number of deafblind people.

DBWA said “The theme of this year’s project was represented throughout the mosaic. Perth City Farm has about 100,000 visitors a year so our message will continue to resonate. 70 people attended the event and DBWA would like to thank all our members who contributed many hours to making tiles for the garden totem, to MAANZ (Mosaic Association of Australia & New Zealand) who embraced our vision and guided us to translate it into this beautiful art form. Thank you to Deafblind Information who funded this National project and to Perth City Farm for allowing us to become a part of their community. A sensory garden is now being planned for the area where the garden totem will remain. Congratulations to the DBWA team on a wonderful event connecting communities, raising awareness and making the inaccessible accessible for people who are deafblind.”

The artwork is on display for everyone to enjoy at 1 City Farm Place East Perth, 6004
