Key Word Sign – introductory session
This session introduces Key Word Sign (KWS) as a communication strategy. Participants will gain an understanding of the importance of using nonverbal communication skills and manual signs for successful communication. The workshop includes a selection
of practical, everyday activities for participants to start using a small KWS vocabulary.
This workshop is not a mandatory pre-requisite to completion of the Basic Workshop. Rather, it has been designed as an option to provide high quality information about KWS where someone is unable to complete a Basic Workshop at the current time. This session may appeal to groups of educators in schools, preschools, long daycare settings and adult support services, where time and resourcing may be barriers to completion of a full day workshop.
