Supporting People with Vision and Hearing Loss features a series of free workshops, assessments, and events by SensesWA & DeafBlind West Australians (DBWA) to raise awareness and share solutions which will take place in Busselton and Margaret River from 18 to 21 March 2025.

Join us for the opportunity to learn and connect with health professionals, educators, and people with lived experience who provide information and services to improve the quality of life of those who experience vision and hearing loss also referred to as deafblindness.

About vision and hearing loss and deafblindness

Vision and hearing loss and deafblindness affects a person’s ability to access information, communicate and socialise.  If not detected early, it can affect a person’s ability to move around independently, perform daily tasks and general confidence.  By improving your understanding vision and hearing loss you can enhance the quality of life of someone who experiences these symptoms.

What you’ll learn

Join as we share best practice information and resources to help you:

  • Understand the spectrum of hearing and vision loss across all age groups
  • Learn about alternative communication methods including Key Word Sign
  • Understand ways to support someone with vision and / or hearing loss
  • Access school-based resources to better support children with sensory loss
  • Connect with members of the DeafBlind Community

  • Anyone involved in disability services e.g., support workers and carers
  • People who have vision and / or hearing loss or impairment
  • Health professionals and aged care workers e.g. nurses and allied health practitioners
  • Educators e.g. teachers and education assistants
