SensesWA is proud to celebrate 130 years since it first began helping people with disability.
Duncan Guy, SensesWA’s Chief Executive Officer says SensesWA has been an innovator in disability services since it started in 1895.
“SensesWA began as The Western Australian Home Teaching Society for the Blind. Back then, families were expected to care for their children with disability on their own. SensesWA was one of the first to offer education and employment opportunities for people who were blind.
“Throughout the years we’ve changed and grown, but our goal is still the same – to empower people with life changing support so they can live more independent and fulfilling lives,” Duncan said.
Today, SensesWA supports people of all disabilities and across all ages with therapies, daily assistance from support workers, supported accommodation, and training.
The profit for purpose charity is considered a leader in deafblindness with a team of expert consultants who are at the forefront of research and projects. SensesWA is the consortium lead of the Deafblind Information Australia project, delivering workshops and online information nationally.
“As we celebrate this special anniversary in 2025, we’re also launching our biggest ever digital transformation which will help us better respond to the needs of the people and communities we serve.” Duncan said.
