LEGO Therapy Group – July

Join our therapy group designed for kids with disabilities to build social skills while having fun.

Kids work together to create LEGO models, practising sharing, turn-taking, eye contact, and teamwork. The group also helps improve language, fine motor skills, and visual skills like spotting details. Learning in a group means kids can connect with peers their own age, making social skill development more natural and effective. It’s a great way for kids to make friends and grow confidence in a supportive, motivating setting.

Intended outcomes of program

  • Promoting social interaction and social communication
  • Develop social skills such as turn-taking, sharing, collaborative problem solving, shared attention, and eye contact
  • Language and vocabulary development. As the group is heavily focused on social skill development, it in turns creates opportunities to target language and vocabulary goals.
  • Use of LEGO will also target fine motor skill goals, such as finger and hand strength, in-hand manipulation.
  • Use of LEGO will also target visual perceptual skills, such as visual discrimination and figure ground. Visual discrimination skills are relevant to many student goals such as handwriting, reading. Figure ground is relevant during tasks such as looking for things that are lost. Visual perceptual skills as a whole are very important and impact lots of different activities of daily living, such as dressing.
