Be My Guide App

Posted on March 26, 2019 in Latest News and Information

We are delighted to announce the launch of Be My Guide – an app specially designed for people with a vision impairment, encouraging them to access their community and helping to increase confidence, independence and participation. The app allows the user to invite friends and family to be their guides via a video phone call.

The Be My Guide development team, led by our Senior Orientation and Mobility Instructor Paul Garwood, started work on the App 18 months ago, and underwent rigorous analysis, research and testing of the App prior to its launch.

Deborah, a vision impaired client of Senses Australia was involved in the prototyping, testing and development of the App. Deborah feels it will give her the confidence to travel independently and not rely on the kindness of strangers to point her in the right direction. ‘The Be My Guide App is just fantastic. It has been developed by the specialised sensory team at Senses with the end user in mind. Senses Australia are leading the way for people like me to gain better independence and that feels great.’

The Honourable Stephen Dawson MLC launched the Be My Guide App at an event at Flux in March. A HUGE thank you to everyone involved in developing the App. The Be My Guide App is another option in the tool kit of people who are blind or have low vision, to assist them to navigate their surroundings safely and with confidence.

Visit our Be My Guide website for more information or to download the App to your mobile device.
